Kazinda asks court to quash fresh charges

The interdicted principal accountant in the Office of the Prime Minister, Geoffrey Kazinda, has asked the Anti-corruption Court to dismiss the new charges against him for causing a financial loss of sh14b.

This is after Anti-corruption Court judge Margaret Tibulya charged him with four others in the Office of the Prime Minister for causing financial loss, forgery, criminal conspiracy and neglect of duty.

The state alleges that he forged the signature of the former permanent secretary Pius Bigirimana between December 2011 and 2012.

Kazinda is already serving a 5 year sentence in Luzira prison for forgery and abuse of office.

His lawyer Omongole Richard told court that allowing a trial on some one who is already convicted and serving the sentence contravenes the constitution.

Omongole further states that the facts of the charges are the same with the previous ones.
