AWARD winning soul and jazz singer, Regina Belle and contemporary jazz saxophonist, Marion Meadows alongside Jazz legend Gerald Albright will headline the 5th annual Nile Gold Jazz Safari slated for October 5, at Kampala Serena Hotel.

Belle is renowned for her Grammy award winning duet with Peabo Bryson, A Whole New World, among several other chart topping songs. Her contemporary, Meadows is an accomplished saxophonist, who has collaborated with greats like Brook Brenton, Bolton and The Temptations.

Albright, who will be making his third appearance at the feat is considered to be a Jazz great with several albums under his belt.

The headliners will be joined by several other talented instrumentalists and vocalists.

This was revealed to a mix of jazz enthusiasts, journalists, Rotarians and contemporary musicians at a special launch event hosted at Kampala Serena Hotel.
Part of the proceeds from this year’s event will go to the Uganda Rotary cancer programme, which is in the throes of constructing a cancer ward at St. Francis Nsambya Hospital.

This will serve to combat cancer in Uganda. Speaking at the event, Tshaka Mayanja, the founder of Jazz Safari promised a broader and unique jazz experience that would also pay tribute to the music of the Jackson family, Michael Jackson and the recently fallen Whitney Houston.

Mayanja’s Blackroots Unlimited outfit played several jazz pieces at the launch. “Do not think about the show, think about what the money you pay can do in the fight against cancer,” he added.

The show, whose tickets will retail at sh250,000 for VIP and sh150,000 is sponsored by Nile Gold Crystal Malt lager alongside Rwenzori premium water, Kampala Serena Hotel and British Airways.
