The Police have assured tourists of safety in the Rwenzori region districts of Kasese, Bundibugyo and Ntoroko.

Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said that police and sister security agencies have boosted security in the region following recent tribal clashes reported in the area.

The region boasts of tourist attractions that draw in a number of visitors such as the Rwenzori Mountains for hiking, the national parks, Queen Elizabeth national park, the Semuliki national park and hot springs.

Enanga said that police and the army have successfully countered the attackers who are linked to the Rwenzururu kingdom, and many have since been charged in courts of law.

“Calm has been fully restored in the area and recreation centers opened,” Enanga has told journalists during a press conference at the Media Centre Today.

He added, “The deployment of appropriate police and military assets and supporting infrastructure has created safety for visitors selecting the Rwenzori region as a holiday destination.”

He said that the Tourism Police, whose mandate is to ensure safety and security of international and domestic tourists, has been deployed in the tourist sites in the region.

“The police therefore urge the public and all tour companies to resume their operation in the area and benefit from the security infrastructure in the area,” he added.
