The purpose of UNHCR is to safeguard the rights and well-being of persons of concern
Today is World Refugees Day. This is the time when we celebrate the courage and bravery of people who are forced to flee their ‘homes’ for reasons ranging from wars to persecution and political upheavals among others.
One becomes a refugee when they cross borders seeking safety in another country. The main situations that lead to refugees in Africa include; civil conflicts, persecutions on grounds of race, nationality, religion, political opinion and membership of a particular social group.
