Parents: The prophets in your children's life

May 31, 2012

Every child needs a prophet in their lives. A prophet stands on the hill and sees what is coming hundreds of miles away. As such, he is able to position himself and his interests in the right place.

Every child needs a prophet in their lives. A prophet stands on the hill and sees what is coming hundreds of miles away. As such, he is able to position himself and his interests in the right place.

He is able to avoid pitfalls and carry out his or her duties well knowing the environment they are operating in. As a parent, you are the prophet in your child’s life.

But are you playing your prophetic role? Do you have time to plan and give time to your prophetic role? The years have made you wise and they have given you experience. You are more knowledgeable or should be more knowledgeable about many things. Of all people in the world, you are the most concerned about your child’s future. Prepare them for it

You must look far beyond your present circumstances to the world your child will live in in 20 years’ time. Then ask yourself; have I prepared my child to succeed and blossom in that world? Or will my child still be at home begging for airtime, bashing my car and running away from money lenders? When you find those answers, guide your child to be the most successful individual they can be.

A prophet chastens and rebukes because of what they see. A prophet encourages and motivates because of the potential they see in a person. A prophet proclaims and things come to be. Are you, dear parent, playing all those roles?

Every child has the potential to succeed and shine. It is you the prophet to bring out their natural endowments. Chisel them out, sand paper them and gloss them up.

You should never be a prophet of doom for your child. They will find so many of those when they step out of your home. All doomsayers do is bash themselves and others as well.

Provide hope for your child. Tell them they are strong; resilient, brilliant enough to build the economy, to make changes where we are not making them, to innovate and move this country and region forward.

We must let them know they can do it and can reach deep inside their God-given abilities and make some major transformations. But first, we must take our place as prophets and start building the individual for the future.
