REA would like to inform the general public that some Sub/Contractors associated with them are extorting money from unsuspecting members of communities in rural areas under the disguise of connecting them to the Grid.


PUBLIC NOTICE

The Management of RURAL ELECTRIFICATION AGENCY would like to inform the general public that some Contractors and Subcontractors associated with them are extorting money from unsuspecting members of communities in rural areas under the disguise of connecting them to the Grid.

"Our mandate is to facilitate the provision of electricity for Socio - Economic Rural Transformation in an Equitable and Sustainable Manner".

As such we construct Medium voltage and Low voltage networks in rural areas with a defined scope. The infrastructure we provide allows for No pole connections. All project funds are available before the start of a project. At no given time, do we expect the public to pay a fee to access electricity in rural areas.

Except in the following cases;

1. Application under the Community schemes, that is: the community makes a contribution to REA before the constructions starts. In such cases the mobilization is left to the community

2. Connection cost to utility provider which may be UMEME, Ferdsult, UEDCL, PACMECS or BECS,

3. Shares and membership fees for areas under electricity cooperatives

4. The cost sharing for agricultural schemes

STEPS TO TAKE:
• If asked for money for any service, please take note of the name of the person and take their contacts

• Contact the area LC1,

• Call the Police,
