The last 12 months have been difficult for Ibrahim Sekagya.

Apart from losing his beloved mum to cancer mid last year, the former Cranes captain has still failed to come to terms with the heart-break of failing to guide Uganda to the 2012 Nations Cup finals.

But if the Red Bulls captain can complete winning a season double against Ried in Sunday’s Cup final, the achievement will fairly mend his self-esteem raptured by the agonizing events throughout the season.

“If I can guide the club to Cup glory on Sunday, I will feel better. This will be my best season at Salzburg considering what has happened in my life in the last months,” said Sekagya.

Sekagya was vice captain at Salzburg last season. He was later elevated as the club’s captain a couple of months ago.

On Sunday, he claimed his third Bundesliga title and also became the first African to lead an Austrian club to league glory after guiding Salzburg to a 5-1 victory over Neustadt.

“It felt proud leading the team to the championship and I would love to do it again on Sunday. Ried are not an easy side but we have the group to do the job.

“It has not been an easy season as I had to recover from several injuries but the club believed in me. I just want to give my all and see what happens,” he added.

Sekagya retired from Cranes duty in February following pressures to overhaul the team in the aftermath of the 2012 qualifying edition.
