MP attributes domestic violence to poverty

THE Woman MP Budaka district, Sarah Kataike has attributed increased cases of domestic violence on poverty in the household.

MP Kataike was on Saturday Sensitizing Residents of Kamonkoli in Budaka district. The sensitization poverty eradication campaign in district launched last week by the MP is geared at helping women in the area improve on their livelihoods.

The campaign includes women groups from all parishes come together and plant vegetables nursery beds and later transfer them to their gardens. Over 100 groups benefits from the start-up of the project.  

Kataike said that government is committed to improve on the livelihoods of people through introduction of programmes like National Agriculture Advisory services (NAADS) and plan for modernization of agriculture (PMA).

She said that women can be empowered economically once they do engage in income economic activities in the area.
 “We need to come out as women and work hard in order to improve on our livelihoods. We could do this by forming groups and get support from government institutions, “she said.

Kataike advised residents to desists from politicization of government programs, but instead work hard on fighting poverty in there households.

She promised rural women to avail them with markets for their products once they produce their products in bulky.
 “I can access markets for your products in Kampala, but you must also produce them in bulky.

Once you produce fore-sitance vegetables in bulky it would be very easy for someone to come and buy it all at once,”Kataike said.

Kataike applauded local leaders in the area for working together in helping people in the area improve on the livelihoods.
