JANE Bussmann, a British comedian cum journalist, cracked Kampalans’ ribs with her comedy piece on the rebel Joseph Kony and the war in northern Uganda, last Friday at Mish Mash, Kololo.

She told some scary stories (and some dumb ones too) about her Ugandan roller coaster experiences, for an entrance fee of sh90,000 and sh50,000 based on seating arrangement.

The author of Worst Date Ever Or How It Took a Comedy Writer to Reveal Africa’s Secret War, she had a chat writer Mildred Apenyo. Excerpts

Hi Jane. Have you got the hang of bodabodas yet?
Hahaha, I don’t think I’ll ever get used to those. But also, I don’t think I’ll ever stop using them.

You keep coming back here, what’s with you and Uganda?
The simsim paste, that’s it. When I take it back home with me, I always have this conversation with mum where she’s insisting we throw it away because it has gone bad and I am insisting we keep it because it’s delicious.

I love blending it with bananas and freezing the concoction-best ice cream in the world. I will not be trying that. You take on Kony 2012?
Uganda’s is a most incredible story; the reception of this Kony 2012 video shows how immense it is and how interested the world can be. Instead of all the fey trivia in columns the world over, all these human angle stories should be written.  We could have two years’ worth of Oprah from Uganda alone.

If you would have the chance to speak to Jason Russell right before he clicked upload, what would you have said?
“This is going to be much bigger than you imagine. Go up to more people who really know this story. Have an ear to the ground and get more perspectives.”

This saga has shown that everybody is angry about militarisation and that postcolonial anger is much alive. But everybody in the world deserves to know these stories.

Did any steamy stuff happen between you and the hot peacemaker in your book that you’ve kept secret?
I always make a joke that if all these steamy things were happening in my life, I wouldn’t be running around working. I’d be on site of these steamy things; doing them.
