Weightlifter Charles Ssekyaaya has said that the USPA sportsman of the month of March accolade will inspire him to perform better so that he wins more awards.
In a message delivered to the sports fraternity by his uncle Godfrey Ssevume, flanked by Ssekyaaya’s
sisters Allen Nabanoba and Doreen Apolot, the weighlifter said he was happy for the recognition which he considers as a challenge to perform even better.
Ssekyaaya’s remarks came shortly after being crowned by USPA president Mark Namanya and Nile Breweries Kampala Sales manager Jackie Ann at Oasis Club on Friday evening.
Ssekyaya is currently training under the Olympic Solidarity programme at Colorado Springs and hisuncle Ssevume, who is also his guardian, was happy that his child has reached to the point of being recognised.
“It is all because of discipline, hard work and taking his coach (Farouq) and manager (Salim Musoke)’s advice. He has always been humble even after featuring in different (international) tournaments,” said Ssevume. Ssekyaaya beat rally driverNasser Mutebi 715-535 points to the monthly award after he won a gold medal in the Africa Senior Weightlifting championships.
