A group of MPs have launched a campaign to restore the presidential term limits.

MPs Denis Obua (NRM), Celina Nebanda (NRM) Cecilia Ogwal (FDC) and Gerald Karunga (Independent) told a news conference at parliament Tuesday that the removal of the presidential term limits was mistake which urgently needs to be corrected.

Karuhanga who is spearheading the restoration of the presidential terms said he is set to move a motion after notifying the Speaker of his intention to do so.

“We are in final stages of drafting the motion which we believe will resolve the problem of leaders overstaying in power,” Karuhanga said.

They want a 5-year two term limit.

MPs who are for the restoration of the term limits say they want responsible and clean leadership that respects the rights and freedoms of the majority.

Parliament in 2005 during the constitutional amendment scrapped the two presidential term limits in favor of simple majority.
