Eviction of vendors in both Old and the New Taxi parks has been postponed.

Kampala City Council Authority (KCCA) spokesperson, Peter Kaujju said Monday they were still consulting different stake holders over the matter.

By 8am the enforcement officers were already at both New and Old Taxi Parks. Few vendors turned up.

Kaujju said the eviction order was issued in July last year and vendors were given an option of securing themselves stalls in various city markets.

Sources within the authority said the eviction exercise was halted for security reasons. By press time, the executive director, Jennifer Musisi was still in a meeting with the heads of department concerned.

A vendor who talked to the New Vision, Siraje Mukasa said they did not relocate to city markets as earlier directed by KCCA, because there was no space.

KCCA last year banned vendors from operating on city streets.

However, the city Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago said that the authority is in the process of repairing both parks. He wants the traders to be handled in more organized way.

“We were supposed to hold a meeting with our traders before any evictions can take place. We want the park in a better state and we are in the process of renovation, but we should be mindful of the traders”, Lukwago said.
