PENINNAH Kabenge has bounced back as the president of National Union of Sports Federations of Uganda (NUSFU) while her challenger has settled for the office of the vice president.

Kabenge got only two votes more than her lone challenger and Uganda Christian University’s Vincent Kisenyi during the elections at Makerere University on Friday.

In the election, 30 ballots were cast for Kabenge while Kisenyi got 28 out of the 58 voters from 22 universities.

“I am happy that the general assembly has entrusted me as the president of NUSFU for the next four years. Such competition is healthy. It means that we have to work harder,” Kabenge said after the exercise.

After losing the main seat Kisenyi took up the office of the vice president to Kabenge after KIU’s Charles Ogwel declined it.

Each of the institutions presents the dean of students, the sports tutor and the student leader for the elections but some universities had only representative.

Nkumba University’s sports tutor Patrick Ssebuliba retained the position, general secretary after MUBS’ sports tutor Hillary Geoffrey Kimbugwe chickened out.

Ndejje University’s sport tutor Paul Mark Kayongo was voted the treasurer for his third term unopposed.

Kabenge revealed that the new executive will focus on hosting international events as well as empowering students with the role to manage university sports.

The assembly officially admitted Bishop Stuart, International of East Africa and Kabale Universities into NUSFU.
