SHAMIM Bangi managed two bronze medals in the mixed and women doubles, but that is all that Uganda could settle for as the going got tougher for local players at the Uganda Badminton International yesterday.

Bangi and teammate Andrew Oryada lost the going to South Africa’s pair of James Dorian Lance and Michelle Edwards 21-9, 21-12 in an epic mixed doubles semi-final.

Bangi was evidently worn out as she went on to lose in the women doubles at the same stage where she teamed up with Margaret Nankabirwa.

Playing against Turkish pair of Osze Baryak and Neslihan Yigit the Ugandans could not measure up to the speed of their rivals; and also failed capitalise on the opponents’ poor ability to smash.

In the first game, the score was even at 13-13 before the Ugandans collapsed to lose 21-14.

The Turkish easily won the second 21-6 to lock out any Ugandans from the finals that were still going on by press time.
