Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) has asked government to direct the 50 megawatts from Bujagali hydro-power project to the industrial sector.

The Executive director Uganda Manufacturers Association, Kigozi Sebaggala said the industrial sector has 100MW deficit of electricity supply.

“This is to ask government to consider our request. If the 50MW is directed to our sector, that will help to reduce the cost of production,” Sebaggala told New Vision in an interview on Friday.

Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi on Thursday witnessed the first delivery of 50MW.

It was part of the many mandatory tests the turbines will undergo before the official launch of the entire 250MW project in July.

There are five turbines and each can produce 50MW. However , the electricity generated during the testing process is connected to the national grid for consumption.
