In what may appear like a rare friendly gesture from opposition politicians towards government officials, Kitgum Woman MP has praised the President and the police chief, Lt. Gen kale Kayihura.

Anywar also asked her constituents to thank Yoweri Museveni and the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for supporting her after was involved in a nasty accident in November.

She said President Museveni visited her in the hospital and gave sh8m for her upkeep while Kayihura immediately dispatched an ambulance to rescue them soon after the accident.

“When I called Kayihura soon after the accident, he responded very fast and sent an ambulance that rushed us to hospital. If Kayihura did it as an individual, we need to thank him; if he did it as government then we also need to thank the government.

We should also thank President Museveni because he came to hospital to see me. We Acholi say we should reconcile with other people even if they have wronged us,” Anywar said.

The MP was speaking to a congregation at the Anglican Kitgum Town Parish Church during thanks giving services for surviving a car accident held on Sunday. She had earlier in the morning also prayed at the Catholic Christ the King Church.

She drove in a posh white car with police registration number, UP 1905.

This was the first time she had set foot in her constituency since the accident in which two of her children got serious injuries and she too was equally affected. She was admitted in a Kampala hospital for months.

Anywar, who said she has not yet fully recovered, thanked people who prayed for and visited her during the trying time. “I should thank God that I am able to stand among you on my two feet. Please pray for me to have the humility to understand that He spared my life for a purpose. There is something that He wants me to still fulfill on Earth,” she said.

Rev. John Dick Kilama Lugai in his sermon called on the government to listen to the demands of its citizen and satisfactorily address the problems of escalating commodity prices and rising cost of living due to the high inflation.

“Everybody is crying there is no money yet parents have to send their children back to school. We have lots of resources but it is being controlled by a few at expense of me and you,” he said.
