MANY would expect Express FC to be consolidating their fort ahead of the decisive round of the Bell Uganda Super League that kicks off on Friday.
That however seems not to be the case going by proceedings in the current player transfers.
The Red Eagles, arguably the most impressive side in the first round, will be without first team players Edgar Luzige, Godfrey Ssentongo, Yusuf Jjuuko, Bernard Agere and Ibrahim Jjingo when they take on fellow giants KCC.
Among the players fighting to keep the Red Eagles at bay for KCC on Saturday, will be defender Juuko.
Coach Sam Ssimbwa conceded on Wednesday that his players had left for ‘greener pastures’.
Luzige has moved to Bunamwaya while Ssentongo is in Simba while Juuko could join KCC. Jjingo is headed for Rwanda.
Ssimbwa, whose side beat Villa in the reserve league at Nsambya Wednesday, sounded confident after the exodus. “Like you have seen from today’s results, I have enough talent.”
Villa have also released some players, among whom is Cranes midfielder Simon Serunkuuma.
“He is a free agent. We decided to let him go,” said SC Villa director of football Joseph Kanaaba. Others leaving Villa Park are Emma Kalyowa, Mathias Kigonya, Joachim Golola and Elijah Sekisambu. The Jogoos have indicated they are going for young blood.
“At the beginning of the season we spent a lot of money on experienced players and it didn’t work out,” explained Kanaaba.
He said they now want to mix experience with young players’ enthusiasm and zeal.
