'Super Lady' is front runner as USPA pick their best of 2011

UGANDA Sports Press Association members will converge to vote for the overall Nile Special USPA sports personality of the year at Oasis Restaurant, in Lugogo on Monday.

UGANDA Sports Press Association members will converge to vote for the overall Nile Special USPA sports personality of the year at Oasis Restaurant, in Lugogo on Monday.

The scribes will also pick their best of sportsmen in the various disciplines in the country at the assembly.

The best winners will be crowned at the most glamorous sports award in Uganda –Nile Special USPA Gala at Golf Hotel on January 27.

Contenders for the overall sports personality include female rally driver Susan Muwonge, athlete Annet Negesa and badminton player Edwin Ekiring, who all excelled consistently throughout the year.

Muwonge became the first woman to win National Rally Championship among male drivers while Annet Negesa won two goal medals at the All Africa games among a host of other national and regional titles.

Edwin Ekiring will contest the overall Nile Special USPA title on the strength of having won a gold medal at the Botswana international, silver medals at the All Africa Games and South Africa international as well as a bronze medal in the Morocco international.

The sports journalists will also pick their best sports personality of December 2011 among the Uganda Cranes basketball club DMark Power and Women Cricket team that won the ICC Africa T20 tournament among the shortlisted.
