KAMPALA District Council has directed the town clerk, Ruth Kijjambu to immediately pay salaries for KCC FC players.

In a meeting yesterday, Council also recommended for the election of a new management for the football club.

Sources said the players have not received salaries since July last year. Each player is on a sh200,000 monthly pay.

During the financial year 2009/2010, KCC increased its sports budget to sh400m from sh120m.

Following the increment, each player was supposed to get sh250,000 per month, but this has since never been implemented, according to reliable sources.

Kampala mayor Nasser Ssebaggala in his budget speech last year, said the club would take the lion’s share of the sports funds.

Ssebaggala said KCC FC would be the flag bearer for the institution, adding that Council would pay the club’s remuneration and maintenance costs.

Councillors noted that KCC FC last held elections in 2003 under former deputy mayor, Hasib Takuba. Takuba however lost his seat in the 2006 local council elections paving way for the current club management, headed by Godfrey Kisekka, to take over.

“The current leadership does not have any terms of reference, no term limit and therefore their appraisal becomes impossible,” a councillor argued. KCC FC elects its leadership every after three years.

The resolutions followed the councillors’ observation that the football club was a non-performer due to poor management. They also querried in the financial management of the club.

“We should streamline modalities to ensure that club’s performance is improved,” said Deputy Mayor, Florence Namayanja.

Kijjambu will today meet the club officials to chart a way forward.
