A 48-year-old Kampala teacher, who was arrested on Monday for allegedly defiling his seven-year-old niece, is to be charged with aggravated defilement.

Police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba yesterday said Steven Walyo, alias Samuel Mpata, would be charged at Makindye Magistrates’ Court.

She said Walyo, a teacher at Mild Care Primary School in Munyonyo, was found to be HIV-positive.

Walyo was arrested on Monday from his home in Wairaka village in Jinja district.

He was briefly held at Jinja Central Police Station before he was transferred to Kampala for further investigations.

“Samples of semen were found in the genitals of the victim and she had bruises on the elbows and thighs,” the medical report attached to the case file read.

The victim’s mother, a housewife in Wairaka village, reported the incident to the Police.

She said Walyo took the girl to the zoo in Entebbe on December 31.

The victim told the Police that after the tour, Walyo took her to his house in Munyonyo and forced her into sex.

The girl said during the defilement, she felt a lot of pain and screamed, which attracted Walyo’s neighbours but he reportedly lied to them that it was mosquitoes bothering her.

The next day, Walyo is said to have confessed to the girl’s mother that he had defiled her daughter.
