ALL Saints Cathedral in Nakasero, Kampala has embarked on a programme to fight bullying in schools.

The cathedral’s vicar, the Rev. Diana Nkesiga, said the programme is targeting pupils who completed primary school and are due to join Senior One this year.

“The vice has taken root in many schools, especially at secondary level. Bullying is most common at the beginning of the school year when newcomers have reported. It has affected the performance of many students,” Nkesiga told the congregation at the church on Sunday.

She disclosed that the church wanted to empower children and sensitise them on how to handle tough situations when they join secondary school.

The programme’s activities will also include a conference that will bring together Christian children to discuss how to deal with the problem. The conference will take place at Kati-Kati Restaurant in Lugogo on Saturday.

According to a report titled Violence Against Children: The Voices of Ugandan Children and Adults, over 60% of children in Ugandan schools have been subjected to bullying. The report was compiled by Raising Voices Uganda.
