MAKERERE will for the first time in decades remain open to the public during the graduation. All roads will remain open, to ensure normal activity and operations in the university. It is only the graduation ground that will be sealed off from the public.

The university publicist, Gilbert Kadilo, said the new measure, ahead of the 60th graduation involving 13, 768 students, is meant to improve operations of the university.

Kadilo and the Metropolitan traffic Police commander, Lawrence Niwabiine, were addressing the media at the university yesterday.

Niwabiine said more traffic police would be deployed in and outside the university throughout the graduation week.

All VIPs will access the university through the main gate and park at the JICA parking yard. University officials and members of the academic procession will park at the faculties of science and statistics.

All graduands entering through the eastern gate will park at the Estates parking yard, Nsibirwa Hall, and Nkrumah Hall.

The main gate will be open to graduands who will park at St. Francis Chapel and at the Food Science building.

Graduands using the northern route will enter via Sir Apollo Kaggwa road to the faculty of Veterinary Medicine and park at Nsibirwa and Nkrumah halls.

Meanwhile, Kadilo confirmed that all students would get their transcripts on the day of graduation at their respective faculties. All Post-graduate students will get theirs from the school of graduate studies, at the Senate Building.

He disclosed that there were over 3,000 unclaimed transcripts belonging to students who graduated several years ago.
