IT is never too late for Warid Telecom; although the year ended a while ago, it did not stop the telecom company throwing a media bash to celebrate the end of year with Kampala journalists.

The party was held in Club Silk’s Ocean Lounge last Thursday. Like most parties worth their salt, this one had sexy all-girl singing groups, correspondingly attractive female solo acts and some great male performances.

The popular Chilli Galz did not only raise the adrenaline but also testosterone levels of the male journalists in the jam-packed club.

This was especially apparent from the ring the excited scribes formed around the girls as they performed and the eagerness with which they jumped at the slightest opportunity for physical contact.

Leila Kayondo and Wafagio (another all-girl singing group) pretty much triggered off the same reaction from the half tipsy scribes while Bebe Cool and ‘Luga ragga’ star Rabadaba simply set the place on fire. Beat FM’s Faridah also performed.

The performances punctuated the five-hour party at different intervals. In true party spirit, the speeches were kept short and to the point. Introduced by Brian Muwonge, the marketing manager, promotions and events, Warid’s out-going CEO, Zul Zavaid, was at his humorous best, taking tongue-in-cheek swipes at journalists at will.

But, he was serious about one thing
— he would give no interviews that night about his impending departure. Those had to wait until today. That night was time to party.

Other Warid officials in the house were Joseph Musoke, Head of HR, marketing
boss, Shine George and host, Hakim Buuza, the assistant marketing manager, promotions.

And a party is not one unless there is plenty to drink and eat right? Well, there was no shortage of that. The canopy trays kept going round and the bar was open from 6:30pm to 10:30pm.

And, like all media parties, Warid officials had to battle an influx of gate crashers from various media houses who assumed their status as journalists was a gate pass. And who would blame them? The goodies Warid served up were quite alluring — a gift hamper with a mobile phone; a cap; keyholder and calendar.

But then there in lay the lesson for Warid Telecom officials. Next time they think about a media bash, they might want to rethink their number of guests and choice of venue. A bigger venue will certainly suffer.
