URA lists goods most smuggled
- KAMPALA
SUPERMATCH cigarettes topped the list of smuggled items, according to the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) customs enforcement data from July to December. The statistics, released at the URA offices in Nakawa recently, showed the cigarettes smuggled through northern Uganda between 2008 and 2009 wereworth sh406m. A total of 3,774 goods were confiscated from which tax revenues totalling to sh5.1b was recovered.

Arua oil well drilling soon
- ARUA
Neptune Petroleum, the firm exploring oil in the West Nile region, will start drilling a second oil well in February. The firm and the Government have also agreed on the site of the new well, located 3km north-west of Rhino Camp town in Arua. The well is Code-named Avivi-1.

Recycling plant full

A sh480m World Bank funded garbage recycling plant at Kitere is stuck with large amounts of manure. The project was set up last year to recycle garbage into organic manure suitable for agriculture. Most farmers said they were not aware of its existance.
