RAKAI district leaders and residents of Kibanda sub- county have rejected a sh1.2b water project which the state minister for animal husbandry, Bright Rwamirama, had gone to commission.

The local leaders argued that the work done was substandard.
The Rakai district chairman, Vincent Semakula and Kakuuto MP, Matthias Kasamba, joined the residents in rejecting the valley dam which was constructed by Spencon Construction Company.

“We shall not receive that dam because it is substandard,” Semakula told the minister.

The residents destroyed the tape which Spencon officials had put up to be cut by the minister while commissioning the project on Friday.

One of the residents told Rwamirama that the dam was too shallow, contrary to what the site manager, VA Satyanayarana, claimed.

“I can walk through that dam to prove to you that it is so shallow,” the resident, only identified as Sebaggala, told the minister, who bet sh10,000 if he walked through the dam.

Sebaggala immediately pulled up his trousers and walked into the water.

When he reached the middle of the dam, the minister called him back, having proved that it was so shallow.

“Now I know what to do for these people,” Rwamirama told Semakula and Kakuuto who insisted on not receiving the project until it is improved.

Satyanayarana requested the minister and the district leaders to give him three months to improve the dam.
