FOR her parents, Valerie Kitaabona’s excellence was not a surprise in last year’s Primary Leaving Examinations.

To them, the former pupil of Namugongo Girls’ Boarding Primary School, was carrying on the family’s tradition of academic excellence.

Kitaabona, who was the head girl at her school, got aggregate four after scoring distinction one in each of the four subjects.

“We set the example as parents. She is very encouraging and has not disappointed us. She is also very disciplined,” her father, Godfrey Wabwire, said yesterday.

Wabwire visited The New Vision offices in Jinja with his daughter after getting the news of her excellent performance.

He said Kitaabona’s elder sister, Vivienne Kafuko, a Senior Three student at Uganda Matyrs Secondary School Namugongo, also did well with aggregate five in Primary Seven.

Wabwire said Kitaabona joined Namugongo Girls’ in Primary Four and has always been among the best three pupils in her class.
Before that, she studied at Victoria Nile Primary School in Jinja town.

Wabwire, who works with the Netherlands Development Organisation in Fort Portal, Kabarole district, said he was happy that his children were following the example they set as parents.

Wabwire has a bachelors and masters degree like his wife, who is a clinical officer and assistant in-charge of Walukuba Health Centre in Jinja municipality.

Kitaabona, the second born in a family of three, attributed her success to prayer, hard work and efforts of her teachers.

“I would like to thank my teachers, friends and parents for the sup-port they gave me,” she said.

Though she generally performed well, Kitaabona believes her best subject is mathematics.

Like her elder sister, Kitaabona wants to join Uganda Matyrs Namugongo for her secondary education.
