EXPRESS custodian and skipper Godfrey Wakabu returns to duty when the table leaders take on second placed Bunamwaya at Nakivubo today afternoon. The match opens the second round of the 2009/10 Uganda Super League.

Wakabu, who seemed to have lacked concentration in their two-all draw against KCC, was rested for the final first round encounter against Kinyara at Wankulukuku. The Red Eagles won 1-0 courtesy of a last minute Noah Ssemakula penalty.

“It was a result of fatigue. He had played too many matches without rest and was also involved with the national team during the CECAFA tournament. He has got that deserved rest and he is back,” said Express assistant coach Matia Lule yesterday.

He said that management was still finalising formalities for new signing Idris Kaye, and if all goes well then he will start the game today.

His counterpart Richard Wasswa said that despite injuries to players Caesar Okhuti, Mike Mutyaba and Ronald Muganga, his team is still focussed on winning their first silverware.

“We play as a team and we can cover up for any absence. By the fact that Express is above us on the table means that they play well. But a win in such games depends on the mental preparadeness. We shall approach the game like any other,” said Wasswa, the assistant team coach of Bunamwaya.

URA v Zanaco

URA FC will be boosted by the return of international defender Musa Doka when they host Zambia’s Zanaco FC in the Champions League at Namboole, writes Swalley Kenyi.

The defender has been away for three weeks, but said on his return that he had gone to look for his father in Sudan.

Doka is among 25 players camped in Wobulenzi, about 20 kilometres north of Kampala, preparing for the preliminary round first leg due February 12.

“It is good Doka is back with us and I believe his problems are settled now. I pray that all my players will be fit,” coach Moses Basena said.

Basena had earlier warned that Doka’s absence was a disciplinary matter to be handled by the club management. He has since toned down saying that he needed all his players focused on the challenge ahead.

As striker Henry Kisekka is nearing full fitness after getting a knock, Basena is still worried about Emmanuel Balyejusa and Hamis Kiiza, who have picked fresh injuries.
