Museveni promotes nine UPDF officers

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has promoted and transferred nine UPDF officers, including Pecos Kuteesa, who now heads the newly created doctrine development department.

PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has promoted and transferred nine UPDF officers, including Pecos Kuteesa, who now heads the newly created doctrine development department.

Kuteesa, who was promoted to the rank of Maj. Gen. from brigadier, is now the director of doctrine synthesisation and development.
According to the army spokesperson, Lt. Col. Felix Kulaigye, the UPDF wants to concentrate on developing the doctrine department since there were no more wars in the country.
He said the transfers are routine, aiming at improving efficiency in the UPDF.

Others redeployed are Maj. Gen. Andrew Gutti, now at the Senior Command and Staff College as a commandant. He has been commandant of the Uganda Military Academy (UMA).

Maj. Gen. Francis Okello from the African Mission in Somalia becomes the commandant of the Uganda Rapid Deployment Capability Centre.

The chairman of the contracts committee, Maj. Gen. Fred Oketcho, is now the new chairman of the Uganda Veterans Assistance Board. They swap positions with Maj. Gen. Emilio Mondo.
Others are Brig. Clovis Kalyebara who moves to UMA as commandant.

Brig. Stephen Kashaka, who was formerly chairman of the general headquarters division court martial, is now the defence attaché to South Africa.

The defence attaché to the USA, Col. John Kasaija, is now the commandant of the military Police, while Col. Dick Olum from the Junior Staff College, Jinja becomes chief instructor of the academy.
