THE former presidential secretary in charge of welfare is vying for the post of MP for the newly created Nakaseke South constituency in Nakaseke district.

Ddamulira Ssengonzi, 36, resigned from his position at State House last year so as to concentrate on his political ambitions.

Gen. Caleb Akandwanaho alias Salim Saleh was recently reported to be interested in the same seat.

Salim Saleh has however not publicly declared that he intends to vie for the seat, but the Luweero triangle state minister, Nyombi Tembo, recently told residents to vote for him if he contests for the seat in the 2011 parliamentary elections.

Commenting on his plan to contest, Ssengozi said: “I am going to stand and I do not mind who else intends to contest because I am ready to win the polls.

“I have lived with the people and I am well versed with what is happening on the ground. I have suffered with them and therefore, no one can claim to know them better than me.”

According to Ssengozi, his father, the late Vitali Ddamulira, participated in and died during the guerilla war that brought the NRM to power.

He previously contested for the Nakaseke parliamentary seat before the county was split into two, the north and south constituencies, but stood down in favour of the Finance Minister, Syda Bbumba.
