A 45-year-old woman in Kibaale district has been arrested over the murder of her husband. Nosiata Nyirakamondo, 45, allegedly killed her husband, Paul Habomugisha, 50, in a domestic quarrel at their home in Mugarama sub-county on Monday night.

The Police say preliminary investigations indicate that Habomugisha died of excessive bleeding after Nyirakamondo cut off his hand with a panga.

Michael Ogwal, the Kibaale officer-in-charge of criminal investigations, said Nyirakamondo had been arrested together with her son, Anthony Kazungu Mugisha and two minors. The children allegedly helped their mother in the murder.

Ogwal said in the heat of the quarrel at around 9:30pm, a drunken Habomugisha rushed into the house and picked a sharp panga, which the woman grabbed from him and used to cut off his left hand.

He added that by the time Habomugisha was rushed to St. Ambrose health centre for treatment, he had bled too much and died three hours later.

“It was a domestic issue that resulted into the death of Habomugisha,” Ogwal said.
Nyirakamondo said as her husband was eating the dinner she had served, he picked up a quarrel and they fought. She said it was not intentional to kill her husband.
One of the children, aged 17, said: “We had spent three days sleeping in the bushes in fear of being killed by our father,” the girl said.

Nyirakamondo faces murder charges.
Meanwhile, the Police in Lugazi on Wednesday exhumed the body of a 40-year-old mother who was reportedly killed by her husband and buried in the forest.

The body was exhumed after Joash Ssebina confessed to killing his wife over suspicion of cheating.

The deceased, Joyce Namatovu, was eight months pregnant. She was staying in Galigatya village, Buvuma Islands, Mukono district with her husband.

Ssebina said he acted out of anger and never intended to kill his wife. He told the Police that he was helped by his friend, a fellow casual labourer, to carry the body to the forest that night. They cut the abdomen to remove the foetus because the Kiganda culture does not allow buyrying a woman with her unborn baby.

Ssebina had promised his helper sh100,000 but the latter leaked the information when the promise was not fulfilled.

The officer-in-charge of crimes at the Lugazi Police station, Joseph Ojinga, said they were hunting for Ssebina’s helper who disappeared after disclosing the secret. Ojinga said the Police were through with its investigations and that Ssebina would be charged with murder.
