The two factions of the Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) have agreed to take their grievances to the party’s national council. The council is scheduled to meet on February 18. It will discuss the composition of the delegates conference, which is the most serious issue among the grievances. The factions last week informed High Court judge Musoke Kibuuka that after a series of meetings, they had agreed to take the matter to the council. Kibuuka had previously ordered the two to settle their differences outside court, saying political party differences can not be solved in court.

The acting executive director of the National Forestry Authority, Hudson Andrua, will serve for another two months. The New Vision learnt that Andrua has been asked to hold the post until the end of March. The chairman board of directors, Baguma Isoke, reportedly informed Andrua of the decision in a letter. Andrua, who has been in the forestry sector since 1978, was appointed after the executive director, Damian Akankwasa, was forced to leave over a sh900m saga late last year.

Megha Industries and the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) have settled a tax dispute out of court in which the company is required to pay sh21m as arrears instead of over sh160m. Megha will pay the arrears in four equal installments, beginning February 28, a legal officer of the URA, Arihe, told the Commercial Court last week. The parties also agreed that should the company default on any installment, then the outstanding amount shall be due and payable immediately with 20% interest per annum till the full payment is made.
