New Buikwe leadership sworn in

THE interim leadership of the newly-created Buikwe district was last week sworn in at a function held at the district headquarters.

Mukono Chief Magistrate Tom Chemutai presided over the ceremony in which the district chairman, Mathias Kigongo, was sworn in.

Kigongo commended the NRM government for making Buikwe a district.

He promised to work hard to ensure that the residents benefited from the services of their leaders.

Buikwe district leaders then held a council meeting where Kigongo announced the district executive committee.

The officials include Livingstone Ziwa, former Mukono district vice-chairman, became the secretary for education, health and sports, Yunusu Kyewalyanga from Njeru town council, who is the secretary for finance.

Others were Francis Kayizzi from Wakisi sub-county is secretary for works and Matilda Mayengo from Najjembe sub-county is secretary for production.

Two other councillors, Timothy Muwonge from Lugazi town council and Ssalongo Samanya of Nkokonjeru town council, were also elected leaders to the general purpose and finance standing committees.

The function was attended by Buikwe residents, officials from State House, Mukono district local leaders and civil servants.

Among the speakers was Edrisa Njuki, the Mukono/Buikwe National Resistance Movement (NRM) party chairman.

The occasion was attended by the housing state minister, Michael Werikhe.

Werikhe asked Buikwe residents to support President Museveni and members of the NRM party in the upcoming general elections.
