THE Uganda National Roads Authority plans to improve ferry services. It, therefore, seeks a technical adviser, according to a notice.

“The consultancy contract will run for six months.

“All services are to be performed locally at the UNRA headquarters and in the field,” the notice indicated.

The project is in the agency’s medium-term strategy and will be funded under the road development programme phase III project.

“The consultant shall review the operational procedures of each ferry and recommend improvements to enhance safety, reduce overcrowding and operational costs.”

The notice indicated that the recommendations were vital as they will help the Uganda National Roads Authority address the shortcomings in ferry transport to provide safe and reliable service to users.

To qualify, one must be a marine or mechanical engineer and a member of a maritime or engineering professional regulatory institution.

They should have over 10 years working experience part of which should have involved review or preparation of operational procedures, and ensuring compliance of a marine transport system to national or international laws and regulations.
