Democratic assessment on

KASESE - Preparations are in the final stages for an assessment of the state of political pluralism, democratic participation and representation at the local government level in the country. The assessment will be carried out in seven districts of Arua, Gulu, Kasese, Mbarara, Masaka, Mbale and Soroti, according to Dr. Yasin Olum, a consultant from Makerere University. The project is funded by the European Union through the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and implemented by the Uganda Media Development Foundation. Speaking recently at a consultative workshop at Rwenzori International Hotel, the deputy resident district commissioner, Wilson Isingoma, called for senstisation of the public to ensure that political pluralism and democracy are understood by communities.
