Last Sunday was the local Indian fraternity’s turn to savour Zee Mantra (Indian lifestyle), as Zee TV brought to Kampala an extravaganza of music, dance and fashion. Zee TV is an international Indian TV channel that airs on Dstv.

Hundreds filled the Industrial Area-based Club Silk beyond capacity to catch the fiesta.
Many cut appearances rarely seen of our resident Indians — bandanas, baggy jeans and chains.

Local stand-up comedian Kenneth Kimuli, aka Pablo, performed his Ugandan comedy, but he hardly tickled the guests.

Also on the menu was a multi-cultural fashion show featuring models and designs from India, Uganda, East Africa and Europe.

The highlight of the night was a performance by the Item Dancers, featuring famous Bollywood actress and Item dancer, Tahu Kaushik.

Item dancing is the Indian version of belly dancing. Kaushik and her seven-member team excited the crowd with their artistic and seductive, gyrations and twists.

Dubai-based world famous DJ Sash, alongside Uganda’s DJ Shiru, span the disks as guests danced. Rajesh Chaplot of Impressario, organisers of the show, said owing to it’s intial success, Zee Mantra would soon return to Uganda. Warid Telecom sponsored the show.
