Uganda Athletics Federation official Namayo Mawerere, said 17 events across the men and women categories will be on card.

Sprinters Justine Bayigga, Ali Ngaimoko, Waisswa Lukungu and Ramathan Akullu are some of the athletes battling to qualify for the Games set for India’s city of New Delhi in October.

Bayigga’s group put up an impressive show in the first trials last Saturday.

Bayigga (Police) clocked 11.7 seconds in the 100m dash while Ngaimoko (KIU) recorded 10.2 and 20.9 seconds in the 100m and 200m respectively.

Lukungu (KIU) won the 400m race in 47.8 seconds ahead of Akulla (Ndejje University) who was timed 48.5.

UAF will hold three more trials and the national championship in a bid to help athletes hit the Games qualifying grades.

The athletes will also use the trials to qualify for the World Junior Championships due in Canada, and the Africa Senior Championships scheduled for in Nairobi in July.

However, national runners Moses Kipsiro and Moses Kibet will miss tomorrow’s event. They are in Kapchorwa preparing for the World Cross Country Championships due in the Polish city of Bydgoszcz on March 28.
