A TEAM of Kenyan investors recently visited Teso region to conduct a survey on the defunct Soroti Meat Packers factory.

The team wanted to determine the viability of setting up a fruit processing plant in the defunct meat factory premises.

Led by Rakesh Pant, the MADA Holdings group financial controller, the delegation also toured other potential locations in the area.

The group already owns Jinja Nile Resort Hotel.

William Omaria, one of the directors of the former factory, took the team on a guided tour of facility and the land it owns.

“I would like to partner with a serious investor,” Omaria told Pant.

He said he was looking for partnerships with individuals and organisations.
Omaria promised to offer land for the fruit-growing function.

, said if the investors were to set up a fruit factory in Soroti, 60% of the fruits produced should be planted by the factory, while 40% would come from out-growers.

The area is endowed with oranges, mangoes, pineapples, papaws and water melon.

Pant said they had wanted to establish a fruit factory in Katakwi district but the factors were not conductive, citing the unco-operative community.
