ADISON Kakuru, the Rukiga MP-elect, has said he will try to woo the FDC candidate, Jack Sabiiti, back to the NRM party.

Kakuru, a former supporter of Sabiiti in the 2001 parliamentary elections, said: “I have asked him to return to NRM. It is Sabiiti who abandoned us but he can come back home.”

Kakuru, who beat Sabiiti by over 1,000 votes on Monday, was on Tuesday speaking during an interview at Little Ritz Hotel in Kabale.

He also appealed to Amos Mugisha, who stood as an independent candidate, to be committed to the NRM party.

Kakuru, whose campaign was supported by President Yoweri Museveni, said he will back NRM decisions in Parliament.

he resigned his post as Kabale district chairman to contest for the Rukiga seat, following the death of area MP Samuel Byanagwa on January 24.

Sabiiti, who addressed journalists in Kabale town, blamed the Electoral Commission for mismanaging the electoral process.

He said he would consult his party (FDC) on whether to contest the seat again in 2011 or petition court on grounds of bribery by the NRM supporters in the byelection.
