A water and sanitation project has been launched in the north.
The sh2b programme is an initiative of Rotary Club International and World Vision.

It is aimed at providing more than 40,000 pupils and residents with access to safe water in the return villages.

Under the two-year project, 28 new boreholes will be constructed, while 16 old boreholes will be repaired.

A total of 16 rain harvesting tanks and 16 latrine blocks will also be built.

Speaking at the launch at Paicho Primary School in Gulu on Friday, Dr. Gerald Obai, the project chairman, said it will be implemented in Kitgum, Pader, Amuru and Gulu districts.

He said at least 56 primary schools will benefit from the initiative.
Obai added that sanitation awareness campaigns will be conducted in eight primary schools and villages.

Andrew Muguluma, the Rotary Club assistant governor for district 9200, called for proper accountability of the funds to ensure that the residents benefit from the programme.
