EDUCATION and Sports minister Namirembe Bitamazire is expected to officially open this year’s National Primary Schools Athletics Championships that start tomorrow at Malukhu playground in Mbale town.

Joseph Wanzusi
reports that Mbale district sports officer Peter Majeme told The New Vision that competing district teams started arriving on Easter Sunday and by Monday morning 20 teams had checked in at North Road Primary School, where the organisers have established a secretariat for the annual games.

Majeme said officials from the Uganda Athletics Federation are already in Mbale to screen the athletes and issue identification tags to those who qualify in the various categories.

“Any district found flouting the rules will be disqualified from the competition while the affected teachers leading the delegation will face disciplinary measures from the education ministry,” Majeme warned.
