WE commend Education Vision for highlighting the plight of teachers in private schools. Indeed, you hit on some of the most common issues that affect these desperate workers.

Teachers are also faced with harassment on top of getting miserable payments — they are always paid late or not pay at all. Aware of all the above, the Uganda Private Teachers’ Union (UPTU) was registered to help teachers. It has its head office on Plot 55, Balintuma Road, Nakulabye.

The leadership of this union urges all teachers in private schools to sign up for membership so that their concerns can be addressed through collective bargaining agreements as provided by the labour laws.
