Okumu’s woes
LESS than a year at the helm of the parliamentary committee on commissions, statutory and state enterprises, life seems to be difficult for Aswa MP Reagan Okumu. His committee members accuse him of handling witness with kid’s gloves. Okumu struggled to become the chairperson of the committee and promised to do better than his predecessor, John Odit. However, last week, Bunyole MP, Emmanuel Dombo accused him of being a spokesperson of the National Forestry Authority (NFA) and called his report on the NFA ‘junk and rubbish”.“ Okumu, uneasy lies the head that wears a crown!

Frank Nankabirwa
State minister for microfinance Ruth Nankabirwa is a frank woman. Recently, journalists who had visited Mengo consoled her over the domestic problems of her colleague Sseninde Nansubuga. Sseninde’s husband had called a press conference to declare his intention to separate with her over her alleged extra-marital affairs. Nankabirwa replied: “This is not a big issue. Sseninde was just unfortunate but that is what most of us are going through. If our rooftops were to be blown off you would be amazed by the dirt inside!”

Anywar’s mum

Environment minister Maria Mutugamba and FDC shadow minister Beatrice Anywar are not on good terms over the former’s failure to implement the ban on buvera. However, recently Anywar surprised her colleagues in Parliament, when she invited Mutagamba to sit on her laps. before a parliamentary session began. “My dear Mum, come and sit on my laps. It is a while since I last saw you,” Anywar said. Interestingly, Mutagamba honoured the invitation. In politics there are no permanent enemies or friends!

Clever Katuntu

Local government accounts committee chairman Abdul Katuntu is a clever man. Last week, officials from Rubaga division told him that they had not disbursed sh170m meant for lower administrative units because the units had no operating accounts. Katuntu tricked them. he summoned the seven unit chiefs without the knowledge of the officials. When the committee commenced, Katuntu asked the chiefs why they didn’t have operating accounts. They all disputed it. The rubaga officials panicked and apologised for telling lies to the committee.
