NATIONAL champion Ronald Ssebuguzi has upheld the tradition of Ugandan drivers exciting their loyal fans with new cars on the big occasion. Ssebuguzi has confirmed that his new Mitsubishi Evo9 arrives in Kampala next week, just in time for the KCB Pearl of Africa Uganda rally slated for April 30 to May 2.

Having confirmed the arrival date for his car, Ssebuguzi was due to register for the Pearl rally yesterday.

The car was constructed by renowned Scottish automobile engineer Dom Buckley to suit conditions in Africa.

“I will not be required to make adjustments because Dom knows our conditions,” Ssebuguzi remarked.

“The specifications perfectly suit Ugandan roads. I just need to test the car and probably show it to my sponsor because he foots my bills.”

The reigning national champion is sponsored by Jomayi Property Consultants who contributed towards purchase of the car.

Dom constructed four-time national champion Charlie Lubega’s Mitsubishi Evo4 and Charles Muhangi’s famous Subaru Impreza ‘Ekitaguriiro’ in which he won the 1999 Africa championship.

The Pearl rally that is the third round of the Africa Rally Championship will start with a super special stage at Lubiri on April 30 ahead of the first and second legs in Luwero over the next two days.

Reign African champion Jamie Whyte of Zimbabwe who leads the championship with 76 points has already entered the rally.

Local drivers including Ponsiano Lwakataka, Susan Muwonge, Nasser Mutebi, Shafiq Ssemuju, Wycliff Bukenya and Mohammed Abdusamad have so far registered.
