When you know the cause of sexual dissatisfaction in your relationship, it is easier to resolve the problem. According to Ndyanabo, sex dissatisfaction can be caused by ignorance. “Some couples believe enjoying sex is automatic,” he says. “Couples should endeavour to know how best they can please each other in bed. This may entail opening the communication channels.”

Sometimes sex may be hampered by physiological and psychological issues. It may be sickness, menopause, stress, depression, fatigue or conditions like diabetes. Seek medical advice to resolve these, he says.

Fear can also affect performance. Ndyanabo explains that this condition causes dryness for females and loss of erection for males.

Some other conditions that may hamper sexual enjoyment include pregnancy, breastfeeding, bereavement, child sickness and anxiety.

Pastor Sabrina Wantante points a finger at differences in libido. One may have a higher sexual urge than the other and may want to have sex daily, while the other wants it once a week. That calls for compromise.

Wantante adds timing to the list of causes. “You find one partner may like sex at night, while the other would prefer it in the morning. Lack of mutual timing can cause problems.
