Parties get joint candidate in June

THE Inter-Party Co-operation (IPC) delegates’ conference, in which a joint opposition flag-bearer will be selected, is slated for June.
“The IPC was waiting for the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to elect its flag-bearer before a date for the delegates’ conference is set,†the FDC publicist, Wafula Oguttu, said.
“The conference is set for June but a final date will be communicated,†he added.
Addressing journalists at the party headquarters at Najjanankumbi in Kampala yesterday, Oguttu re-affirmed his party’s commitment to lead the cooperation in the 2011 elections.
“Our task is to battle it out with candidates from the other parties for a single candidate,†Oguttu said.
The New Vision has also learnt that the Social Democratic Party (SDP), headed by MP Michael Mabikke, has already applied to join the co-operation and will be formally admitted on April 27.
The FDC spokesperson refuted talk that they were urging to the Democratic Party (DP) to join the co-operation.
The parties under the IPC are; FDC, the Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC), the Conservative Party (CP) and Justice Forum (JEEMA).
