BRIAN Mwesigwa hopes to thrive on his knowledge of the Kabale golf club course to shine in the Kigezi Crane Bank Open that tees off today.

Mwesigwa who cut his teeth in the sport on the nine-hole tricky course travelled to Kabale earlier than his competitors to have ample practice.

“It’s my home course but I still need to be there early and hopefully win my first major event there,” Mwesigwa said before departure.

Mwesigwa who was beaten to the Lugazi Open title by Entebbe’s Stephen Odongo two weeks ago is expected to feature prominently.

He will this time face stiffer competition from national team players incuding Emma Opio, Stephen Kasaija and Said Mawa who were away in Botswana during the Lugazi Open.

With the sponsor providing a van to transport players from Kampala, the turn out is high which raises the level of competition.

The event has been further heightened by a host of players from Kigali Golf Club that is hardly an hour’s drive to Kabale.

The two-day tournament also has a professional category that will feature Ugandan and Rwandan players.
