FOUR people died in Kyenjojo district and another four are in a coma, suspected to have taken poisoned food. Mwesige Kagoro, the Myeri LC2 chairperson, said the victims were from the family of Moses Iriyo of Nkera.

They ate matooke mixed with white ants, prepared by Iriyo’s daughter-in-law, one of the victims. Kagoro identified the dead as Sarah Kazairwe, Saul Tumwesige, Christopher Sanyu, and Kanywani, all residents of Katooke sub-county.

He said the other four were rushed to Kyenjojo heath centre IV in critical condition. However, family members took them to Rwebisuba Church of Uganda in Nkera village, where they are being prayed for.

The doctor in charge of the health centre, Twaha Kisozi, said the victims tested positive for poisoning. George Sabiiti, the district Police commander, urged them to go back to the hospital for treatment.
