MASINDI High Court has sentenced two men to 25 and 20 years in prison, respectively, for aggravated defilement. The prosecution said Wilberforce Kakara, 56, of Kitabona village in Nalweyo sub-county in Kibaale district defiled his five-year-old granddaughter in 2008.

Kakara, an ex-convict, who completed a 10-year jail term in 2006 over the same charges, defiled the victim when he lured her into his bedroom, promising her an egg.

The court heard that Kakara was caught red- handed having unlawful sex with the minor by the girl’s mother.

Kakara pleaded guilty to the charges before Justice Raphael Ocan recently.

In his ruling, Ocan said the 10-year jail term that Kakara had served after being convicted of similar charges had not been enough for him to reform and sentenced him to 25 years.

“You are a great danger to girls in this community. The victim in this case is your five-year grand daughter. This is worse than an animal act and you must be sentenced to 25 years in prison,” Ocan said.

At the same court, a 64-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted of similar charges.

Samuel Byaruhanga of Katikara village in Kibaale district defiled a five-year-old girl on October 16, 2008.

He pleaded guilty to the charges.

In his judgment, Ocan said defilement was on the rise and perpetrators of the vice do not deserve to live in the community.

“It is beyond comprehension that a man your age defiled a five-year-old girl. You should have been a source of wisdom to the community. You need to stay away from the people for 20 years,” he said.
