MBALE-The Police Express Penalty Scheme has realised sh77m from traffic offences committed between January and March in 11 districts in the eastern region. Addressing journalists on Friday, the regional Police commander, Joel Aguma, said the Police issued 1,816 penalty tickets. The common offences include speeding, drink-driving, overloading, driving vehicles in poor mechanical condition and lack of valid driving permits.

Floods evict 70 families
BUTALEJA-Floods have left over 70 families homeless. The most affected areas are Butaleja sub-county, Busubira, Makwasi and Mabale villages in Himutu sub-county. The Butaleja sub-county LC3 chairman, Francis Walangira, said the families need food, shelter and medicine. The Wednesday downpour, that lasted over five hours, destroyed several houses.
