Women: A1 v Rangers

UNDER normal circumstances, a league encounter between two playoff regulars would be worth anticipating. But this is between A1 Challenge and the KIU Rangers, a match-up that always goes in one direction.

Put simply, KIU never beat A1 in the MTN-FUBA Ladies league. Even A1 coach Hamza Nyambogo has no recollection of ever losing to the Rangers.

“In the four years I have been with A1, I don’t think I’ve lost to them,” the soft-spoken tactician said.

Nyambogo’s counterpart says he has beaten A1 before but considering it only takes KIU’s league record against A1 to one win in the last four years, one wonders whether it makes any difference.

“I beat them in 2008 in the second round,” said KIU coach Nimrod Kaboha, rightly recalling his team’s shock victory which ended A1’s perfect league record.

Clearly, Kaboha is a man who keeps a good record of his achievements. He is also very cautious, which is why he will not promise his team will win tomorrow.

“I am not God,” Kaboha stressed, “but I can tell you we will be ready for them”.

The neutrals will want to see KIU, who have so far won two games, take the gigantic step of regularly winning this fixture if they are to be considered A1’s rivals and championship contenders.
